Lean Lui, a fine art and fashion photographer based in Hong Kong, returns with her second book titled Aseptic Fields. In this book, she explores themes of sensuality, innocence, and personal connection. The work reflects on how these concepts, along with ideas of seduction, intimacy, and lust, undergo a slow process of contamination from the outside. This transformation turns innocent fantasies, paradigms of perfection and purity, into unsettling experiences of fear, desire, pain, and isolation, which are inevitable realities we encounter in an imperfect world.

The central premise of Aseptic Fields is the idea that anything entering an aseptic field alters its pristine nature. Over time, these external elements contaminate its parts, changing its colors, sounds, and textures, distorting what lies inside the protective walls. The book invites readers to become the foreign object invading a sanctuary, observing how the human presence can transform a sterile and untouched world into something dark and unnerving. With Aseptic Fields, Lean Lui continues to challenge and captivate the audience, exploring the boundaries between purity and contamination, beauty and unease.

Lean Lui’s career has seen a rapid rise. Her first photography book, 19.29, was a finalist at the Beijing Three Shadows Photography Award, exhibited at the Hong Kong International Photography Festival in 2018, and shown in numerous international galleries. At the age of 21, her fine art work caught the attention of DIOR, which invited her to shoot a global campaign, making her the first Asian and the youngest photographer to receive such an assignment. This event marked the beginning of her career in fashion photography, characterized by her distinctive artistic gaze. With a background that includes a master’s degree in Contemporary Photography and Philosophy from Central Saint Martins, Lean Lui is also a guest lecturer in the Contemporary Photography Course at Hong Kong University Space.
