NIGO and HUMAN MADE have unveiled their latest collaboration that this time involves the most iconic denim company, Leviโs.

NIGO is a leading collector of vintage Levi’s, his collection is one of the most important in the world and full of rare items that would delight any enthusiast.ย The Levi’s x HUMAN MADE collaboration is based on the concept of the archive and how much this has inspired NIGO in his research as a designer.

The collection made in Japan by Levi’s x HUMAN MADE consists of the 506 Trucker Jacket in selvedge denim featuring the co-branding HUMAN MADE and Levi’s on the back, including the slogan of the brand founded by NIGO, “Gears for futuristic teenagers”, and the graphics of the fluttering duck, also typical of HUMAN MADE but revisited just for the occasion. And of course, there is no shortage of jeans, the 1944 501ยฎ, made entirely of Japanese denim and naturally selvedged, distinguished by co-branded Levi’s x HUMAN MADE buttons. The denim used for both items was handcrafted in Japanese using traditional Levi’s techniques.

The campaign created for the collaboration consists of a video shot inside the Kabuki Izushi Eirakukan Theater. Kabuki is one of the most important and famous forms of traditional theater in Japan, it is a theatrical genre born in the early seventeenth century and has always staged social issues or historical performances. The actors, always and only male, play all the roles through the massive use of makeup and extremely elaborate and complex costumes. Built in 1901, the Izushi Eirakukan is the oldest Kabuki theater in the Kansai region as well as the oldest building housing a Kabuki theater in all of Japan. Closed in 1964, this theater was restored and reopened to the public in 2008, and Kabuki performances are still staged inside. Entering the Eirakukan Kabuki Theater is like stepping back in time 100 years.

The protagonist of the video is NIGO in what seems to be a mini Kabuki show, in which tradition and contemporaneity find a meeting point thanks to the magic of theater.
The Levi’s x HUMAN MADE collection will be released on April 7 on the Levi’s website.
