Mashhad is the capital of Razavi Khorasan, one of Iran’s 31 provinces and the northeasternmost province in the country. The city is a well-known religious destination as it houses the Shrine of Imam Reza and the 15th century Goharshad Mosque.
Mashhad is also home to the photographer Masoud Mirzaei, who has turned his views and vistas into the subjects of his photographs.
With a background in information technology, Masoud Mirzaei has found his true passion in photography. In particular, Masoud seems to have a special talent for street photography.
If you visit his website or his Instagram profile, you will notice a saturation of colours, from the bricks and walls of houses to the sky. This stylistic choice allows all the elements to stand out and creates a strong contrast with one of the most recurrent subjects of his photographs.
In fact, a quick glance at Masoud Mirzaei’s photographs is enough to notice how the figure of one or more women dressed in typical veils concealing their whole bodies is recurrent. Walking through narrow alleys, or captured from behind as they watch the sunset, these women cannot fail to remind us of a hero wrapped in their cloak.
