Mercedes Bazan is a brilliant Argentinean graphic designer with a great passion for oriental culture and Japanese anime in particular. Despite the distance that separates Argentina and Japan, the artist through her works manages to build a bridge, supported by pen and paper, between the two states.
At the beginning of her career her style was vague, not well defined, she loved to portray objects, but as the years went by something seemed to change.
A new awareness and a renewed artistic vein allowed her to explore within herself, so she was able to find her true path.
Today she is known for her works with cyber punk and vaporwave atmospheres, populated by young girls represented in the typical Japanese manga style.
In her works we can also find some retro notes, in fact she is very inspired by old Japanese cartoons, full of colors, big eyes and red cheeks.
The influences of the greats of Japanese animation are also very strong, in fact there is no lack of references and quotations, both in her graphic works and in her descriptions of Miyazaki‘s great films as “the enchanted city“.
In fact, the protagonists are always them, the women, placed at the center of each illustration, represented with a unique style, their gaze always appears lost in the void, some very confident others are tormented by their thoughts.
Carried by the sublime hand of Mercedes Banz, enjoy a one-way trip to Japan.
