Flowers and gazes, portraits by Mina Son

There are faces we look at and don’t remember, then there are faces that meet our gaze and we are particularly fascinated by them. The latter include the portraits of Mina Son, a young Korean photographer.

Mina Son specialises in fashion and campaign photography, represented by the Seoul-based agency VOTT, and has worked with various brands and publications including Gentle Monster, Time, Dear Own, Lines and many others.

What caught our attention, however, were the shots she shares on her Instagram profile, especially her portraits.
These are images in which the faces are taken in close-up, sometimes the lens captures just a detail, and are characterised by a rare delicacy.

The models’ gazes are not provocative or melancholic, they seem to be empty and manage to convey a sense of calm and relaxation to the viewer. Often the white skin of the girls becomes the canvas on which flowers or petals are placed, which as well as giving a touch of colour give even more delicacy to the final result.
