For the new Miss Wong Asian brasserie in Laval, a city near Montreal, Ménard Dworkind Architecture & Design (MRDK) was inspired by the famous Chinese-American actress of the 1920s, Anna May Wong. The style is reminiscent of the exuberance of mid-century Hong Kong mixed with the stereotypical idea of Chinese culture in Canada.

Architects Guillaume Ménard and David Dworkind, curators of the project, created a large central space reminiscent of the streets of China, with the classic neon signs, grilles, gates, and famous Chinese lanterns. The impression one gets when crossing the period Chinese arch at the entrance is that of entering a night market, complete with terrace and vegetation.

This central room is surrounded by four small rooms, each furnished differently, which allow you to enjoy a more intimate culinary experience. Here, each space recalls oriental iconography and Chinese cinema, like the red room full of lanterns, which refers to the film In the mood for love by Wong Kar-Wai.

Let’s say that if Anna May Wong were a restaurant she would be Miss Wong.
