During the upcoming Design Week, we will have the opportunity to present an innovative project conceived by Moon Rabbit Lab. In collaboration with Balena and Framas, the studio will open its doors to showcase an exhibition exploring the future of digital manufacturing and the circular economy: Foot Loop. Moon Rabbit Lab is a startup specializing in Computational Design applied to consumer goods, with a particular focus on high-performance sports footwear. Using Industry 4.0 technologies, such as additive manufacturing, the team behind this startup is experimenting with new ways to design and produce products.
Balena, a company specializing in the development of advanced biopolymers for 3D printing, and Framas, a leader in manufacturing footwear components through injection molding, are key partners in this project, bringing their expertise in material innovation and production.
Foot Loop was created with the aim of demonstrating how design can address some of today’s most pressing challenges: reducing environmental impact, transforming urban spaces, and promoting more conscious consumption. The exhibited products will be tangible examples of a sustainable life cycle, designed to be reused, reconfigured, and regenerated.
The exhibition will be an interactive experience, structured around two pathways that culminate in a modular installation, entirely 3D-printed and constantly evolving. Each day, its form and content will change, allowing visitors to explore new configurations and directly interact with the displayed objects.
To complete the project, a panel talk titled Walk Wise will take place at Basic Village on Friday, April 11, at 4:30 PM. Here, the key figures behind the project—Moon Rabbit, Balena, and Framas—will discuss the concept of the Circular Shoe, a footwear solution that combines injection molding and additive manufacturing with Balena’s innovative BioCir material. This approach ensures a fully recyclable, repairable, and modular design, contributing to a more sustainable future for the footwear industry. The talk will be moderated by Matteo Pasca, director of Arsutoria School.
