A few days after the official presentation of New Balance’s first Made in USA collection under the creative direction of Teddy Santis, the Boston-based company celebrated the 40th anniversary of its other premium line, the Made in UK one, made in the historic Flimby factory. And it did so by releasing a short film that tells the stories behind the people who work there, the places that have characterized the history of New Balance’s Made in UK and the factory itself, the nerve center of NB‘s premium UK line.

The short film focuses on the voices of those who have worked in Flimby for years, emphasizing the centrality of the area’s craft-related tradition, telling the story of the county of Cumbria – in northwest England – and highlighting the factory’s historic employees, as well as all those who have a role in NB in Flimby and nearby Maryport.
On the sidelines of the short presentation, New Balance’s Senior Product Manager for Made in U.K., Dawn Brankley, said: “Initially starting production in a place called Lillyhall in 1982, production moved 7 miles up the road to a bespoke footwear manufacturing site in Flimby in 1991, where the shoes are proudly made to this day. Our rich back catalogue enables us to draw inspiration to create quality new shoes which are coveted world over. 40 years on we still have a great team of people that are proud to make our shoes and pride themselves on quality”.
