The fate of urban nature on the New York works of Pejac

Il destino della natura urbana nelle opere newyorkesi di Pejac | Collater.al 6

Walking in some neighborhoods of New York, coming into contact with the natural world can be very hard and it doesn’t seem to get better in the future.

Thinking about the last one and imagining sometimes a not quite happy ending, the Estonian artist, Pejac, has realized two works in New York, Inner Power and Fossil, precisely in Chinatown and Bushwick.

A painted branch of a cherry tree seems to be able to penetrate the curtain of a Chinatown’s place, growing out of it and showing its wonderful flowers in the company of some birds, while the appearance of a tree, realized with a spray can, imagines a not so happy fate.

The two works, even they have a similar theme, represent two kinds of future: one where nature can impose itself on the human dominance of concrete and bricks and one where only a memory seems to survive to the time.

It’s quite easy to say that we route for the first one.
