“The music of architecture” is the motto of Dutch photographer Paul Brouns, but also what he has been capturing in his photographs for years. 

Paul Brouns is a Dutch photographer, a graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Tilburg and based in Almere, near Amsterdam, whose work focuses entirely on architecture. 

The camera and computer are just the tools Brouns uses to emphasise and emphasise the beauty of buildings, houses, palaces, facades and staircases. The photographer is deeply convinced of the fact that everything we do is somehow closely related to the different types of architectural structures that surround us and that we experience every day: the spaces of the house, the flat, the office, the block, the neighbourhood and so on. 

In addition to perceiving its importance, Paul Brouns did something more, he grasped its beauty and with a simile as original as it is apt, he compared music to architecture. 

“Terms like rhythm, composition, texture, scale and colour can be used to describe the feeling of my work, but it also can be applied to describe music.”

By photographing the details of buildings and repeating them over and over again, Brouns manages to reveal to the viewer the abstract beauty of what surrounds us every day that we are unable to see for ourselves. 

“I like to see architecture as music scores in our existence and for instance details like windows and occasionally people themselves, can be seen as the notes that dance along the floor levels. ”
