The staircase designed by designer Sasha Bikoff is the perfect example of the fusion between two very different styles, French Rococò of the eighteenth century and Memphis Milano, a postmodernist Italian collective founded by Ettore Sottsass. On the occasion of the annual event Kips Bay show house, which invites famous interior designers to make the restyling of a luxury Manhattan home, Sasha had to confront herself with complex geometries that she decided to reveal, exploiting them to her advantage.

The designer’s intention is to arouse viewer’s amazement, thanks to the powerful visual impact of colors and patterns that characterize the staircase because according to her, the design must amuse, as well as having cultured references. The combination of the two styles proves to be a winning mix, succeeding in rejuvenating traditional European architecture with Memphis style elements such as zig-zag, polka dots, doodles, pyramidal triangles. And this is how visitors find themselves in front of a “technicolor dream” with attention to the smallest details, where even the carpets have been specially designed to enrich his work.
