In a time where everything looks like something we have already seen, DIY seems to be back in vogue from the streets to the runways. From rearranged garments to Levi’s denim mash-ups (think of Vetements), we have witnessed the use of the most unconventional materials in the last seasons but one was missing: Nike socks. Following here the re-worked versions we were most impressed by:

After his various collaborations with Nike, among which the most recent and acclaimed Queen collection (released in August) dedicated to Serena Williams, Virgil Abloh brings on his SS19 runway the Nike socks. Leggings, biker shorts and tops entirely made of socks. An idea that, as the renowned Instagram account DietPrada points out, “references” something Maison Margiela had already done back in ’92.
MiniSwoosh

Alexandra Hackett, Australian designer behind the brand ALCH and better known as Miniswoosh, has been doing it for a while. Her account name is inspired right by the brand into question and the focus of her brand ALCH is to deconstruct and redesign sportswear products (prevalently Nike but also Patta), extending the lifespan and popularity of these items.
Vanille Verloes

The most discussed stylist of the moment, promoter of an alternative look to the classic“Parisian Chic” style. Her vision is an eclectic mix of references to high and low culture. Verloes talks to Vogue about her upbringing in the French countryside, isolated from of any big city. She used to spend a lot of time outdoors with animals and dedicate to manual activities with her family. Here she is wearing an entirely self-made corset.
