If there is an artist who has turned his illustrations into a real distinctive signature, it is certainly Hajime Sorayama. The Japanese artist and illustrator is known to the general public thanks to his illustrations featuring beautiful pin-up robots that over time have entered the collective imagination.
It’s news just a few hours ago that Richardson, has collaborated with Andrew Richardson’s brand Richardson for a capsule collection that mixes art, eroticism and provocation.
A collection that includes two T-shirts in black, two hoodies and two pairs of sweatpants, one dove grey the other in black, and all items feature the Japanese artist’s erotic and super realistic drawings of his “Sexy Robots” and are further enhanced by co-branding.
The Richardson x Sorayama collection, between art and provocation is however completed by a unique accessory: a phallic-shaped aluminum incense burner in a limited edition of only 5 pieces, the Richardson x Sorayama Incense Burner, sold at a price difficult to afford, $10.000, and that will be available exclusively at the Nanzuka Underground in Tokyo.
“I made this sculpture based on Andrew’s request but it has hidden context about my respect to Courbet. This collaboration with Richardson should hook up his attitude to break taboo!”, Sorayama said.
Courbet was a French painter and the greatest exponent of the Realist current, to him we owe the iconic painting L’origine du monde which, because of its great erotic charge, is certainly the most provocative work made by the French artist.
The entire Richardson x Sorayama apparel capsule collection will be available exclusively on Richardson’s website and in the brand’s flagships beginning February 10 in the U.S. and the following day in Japan.
