French brand A.P.C. and Japanese brand sacai have just presented their first official collaboration.
Jean Toutou‘s perfect minimalism and Chitose Abe‘s innovative experimentations are mixed in hybrid contamination called “INTERACTION#9”, a project characterized by a limited-edition capsule that merges A.P.C.’s passion for denim and sacai’s frequent use of nylon and is composed by jeans, a denim jacket, a denim skirt, a tote bag, hoodie, T-shirt, a pair of sandals and a pair of sneakers.
A.P.C.’s “INTERACTION” project in the past has already involved top names such as Kid Cudi, Suzanne Koller – who curated the art direction of the lookbook shot by Tim Elkaïm that you can take a look at below – Brain Dead, JJJJound, Carhartt WIP, Goop, Catherine Deneuve and Charlotte Chesnais. Chitose Abe of sacai joins this list bringing with him his signature aesthetic that blends perfectly with A.P.C.’s sensibilities.
About the collection, Jean Touitou stated: “This INTERACTION is a precise illustration of how A.P.C. and sacai came together, interweaving diverse elements of language to achieve a sort of crossbreed that represents the style of our two brands. These pieces are unusual for us, as they push the limits of what we might call ‘wearability’ as far as possible. They are the fruit of a long process of creative deconstruction and reconstruction. We got enormous pleasure from seeing this clothing being taken apart and redesigned. And to quote Maurice Blanchot, referring to the novel ‘Destroy, She Said‘ by Marguerite Duras: ‘Destroy. How this rings: softly, tenderly, absolutely.’ (Maurice Blanchot, Friendship, 1971). This is exactly what we felt when we achieved this work”.
Actually, this isn’t the first time the two brands have collaborated. A couple of years ago, when Abe launched the “Hello sacai” project, a series of pop-ups around the world, he sold collaborative products, including a denim jacket from A.P.C. that, if you look closely, could have been the base on which they built the one in this capsule.
The sacai x A.P.C. “INTERACTION#9” collection will be released on March 19th in A.P.C. stores and online at the French brand’s website.
