Each one of us in this period has thought and rethought about a particular place that he misses more than the others. Some miss going to the cinema and enjoying a movie while eating popcorn, others miss finding themselves in the usual place with their usual friends, others miss the outdoor concerts. The British creative studio Uncommon, together with the chain of stores Earl of East, has thought of making a set of candles with the scent of the places we miss the most.
Called Scents of Normality, these limited-edition candles are made of soy wax and are sold along with a detailed description of the smells of the places. The pub scent candle will smell of “top notes of spilt beer, hair pomade and chip fat jostle amongst a pungent base of varnished teak and sticky carpet”, the festival scent candle will have notes of “a floral haze of cut grass, burned skin and sun-warmed cider with a ribbon of sweet cannabis smoke”, while the cinema scent candle will, of course, have marked notes of popcorn.

In addition, for each candle a different illustrator has been asked to create an ad hoc image: Lan Truong has designed the one that captures the soul of festivals, Thomas Hedger the one that evokes the atmosphere of pubs and, finally, Victoria Sieczka recalls the cinema page.
All the proceeds of the Scents of Normality will be donated to Hospitality Action, an English company that provides assistance services to all people working in the hospitality industry, i.e. cooks, waiters, managers, concierges, receptionists, porters, bartenders, and so on, who in this period of lockdown cannot work and are in serious economic situations.
If you miss the smell of your favorite place then all you have to do is make your order!
