Nostalgic and beautiful, Will Scott’s photos of Seaside Shelters series immortalize the characteristic shelters typical of the English villages overlooking the sea.

The shelters were built all in concomitance with the birth of the railway when British began to move from the city to the coast. With the advent of travel abroad, these places lost their tourist charm and with them, even the shelters began to fall into decline.

Abandoned, untreated, against the wind, salt and the weather these structures have endured over the decades.

The work of Will Scott has become, in part, conservation, deciding to capture something that in ten years may no longer exist. With some of the shelters, the weather has been more forgiving, leaving intact the decorations and the details that make each of them a small monument.

To make the shots even more nostalgic and real, it was Will’s choice not to undergo atmospheric conditions, thus showing us the shelters topped by gray and cloudy skies.
