About melancholy: the shots of Simon Kerola

Simon Kerola, aka Johnny Keethon, is a Swedish photographer who has focused his artistic research on storytelling, exploring the many facets of melancholy in a poetic and romantic way. The artist has repeatedly claimed to be inspired by his childhood, memories, Bud Spencer and Terence Hill films and music.

As Simon explains:

“A sense of loss and longing has found its mirror when the sun rises in the distance. I always find myself searching for nostalgia, a timeless place where nature is still dominant. It’s feels as if these places inspire to tell stories and I just happen to be there to document”.

Loneliness and abandonment are told through well-studied images, where nothing is left to chance: probably Simon elaborates his stories mentally, and then translates them visually.
