Skyway, innovation on Mont Blanc

It seems impossible to think about, or at least, we would never expect it. Yet, at an altitude of over two thousand meters, precisely on the slopes of Mont Blanc, there is an infinity room. The context is already surreal in itself. For those living in the city, the mountainous landscape appears like a cardboard cutout, challenging to process immediately due to its beauty. All of this is seen through the glass of a state-of-the-art cable car, the Skyway Monte Bianco, which, with three stations – including the ground station in Courmayeur – technologically advanced, defies the laws of nature. It is the second station, the Pavillon, that hosts the “infinity room,” offering visitors an immersive experience halfway between reality and imagination. It is a completely mirrored room. The walls, ceiling, and floor are made of mirrors that reflect the video projected by the three LED walls present. The project, created by the design studio Gio Forma team with videos by Andrea Bettinetti, is capable of transporting the visitor into a parallel reality that reveals the hidden sides of Mont Blanc.

Skyway Monte Bianco, Infinity Room

We could also define it as a “digital refuge.” The infinity room is indeed a refuge within the refuge, offering the visitor an experience parallel to what they are experiencing outside, namely being at an altitude of over two thousand meters in a seemingly boundless nature. When these two situations – natural reality and digital fiction – merge in their paradox, the result is astonishing. A nine-minute immersive journey that traverses all the transformations that the Mont Blanc landscape undergoes throughout the year. From winter snowstorms to the warm colors of autumn, from snow melting to the rebirth of flora in spring and summer. All captured and edited by a team of experts, including drone pilots, photographers, and videomakers, who did not hesitate to incorporate special effects during post-production. Thus, on one side, there is Mont Blanc, its flora, and its fauna in their real beauty, while on the other, there is the vertigo effect that contributes to increasing the awe.
