At the SCAD FASH Museum of Fashion and Film in Atlanta, there’s an exhibit going on that would really be worth seeing. It is “Face Value”, an exhibition of the incredible masks of Los Angeles-based artist Gary Lockwood aka Freehand Profit.
The peculiarity of these masks on display is that they were made using only sneakers and the result is absolutely crazy.
Over 30 masks built using absolute top sneakers such as YEEZY, Air Max, Travis Scott x Air Jordan 1, ASICS and many other iconic silhouettes. In the construction of these sneaker masks Freehand Profit has fully respected the aesthetics of the shoes used, preserving their style and details.
“I’ve never had this many masks under one roof. And while many folks have seen my work, most of them have seen the photography, so to be able to have this many pieces in one place and to see so many milestones from my work is really important – from the old work to the new”. It’s exciting to see the scale of the body of work rather than just the individual masks. I grew up a museum nerd, so to finally have my first museum show is a real honor and SCAD FASH and the entire university has really treated me right”, Lockwood said in an interview.
