Species, sofas that look like rocks by Fredrikson Stallard
Species is much more than a design project, it is the philosophy behind the work of the unique Fredrikson Stallard studio.
Species is an aesthetically satisfying project, for true fetishists of materiality, it is elegance and at the same time, it is experimentation. Fredrikson Stallard is just that, a design studio that loves innovation and focuses its research on the study of new attractive forms.
“We create works that thrive on the sense of energy, chaos, destruction and recreation, to allow us to experience the world in new ways, and to see it differently. We move towards the post-apocalyptic, the chimerical, which visually embodies our thoughts”.
The Species project plays on the oxymoron and on the intrinsic contrast between the idea of the consistency of the rock, hard and not very comfortable, versus that of the materials that really make up the sofa.
Polyurethane, glass fibre and polyester are finished in shades of red and black: “the colours of life and death”. The Species series was created as part of an exhibition entitled ‘Momentum’, held during the London Design Festival.
