A spectacular new building for the city of Suzhou

The Chinese architecture firm Lacime has designed ‘Suzhou financial center exhibition hall‘, a building located in the heart of Suzhou, near the canal of the same name. “We wanted the building to become part of the environment, to integrate into it, to stimulate the vitality of the surrounding open space, like a living room for the residents“. The particular building, besides being next to the canal, overlooks the main street of the city.

A simple project, but as always with attention to every detail, which wants to be inspired by the design of the city, exalting the city of Suzhou defined as “a city full of poetry and history and humanity, and in fact enjoys the title of “Garden City“.
For this reason, Taihu stone, a porous stone full of holes characteristic of Suzhou, produced at the foot of Dongting Mountain, was used to further strengthen the bond with the city to create and complete the facades. Time is an element that the architects wanted to play with, giving the viewer the feeling of being in the past and moving into the future with the historic stone.

The architects of studio Lacime opted for a simple geometry, which is infused with slight twists and curves to create a sinuous and elastic shape. The imposing structure seems to float from the ground thanks to a glass curtain wall on the first floor, which also serves to distinguish interior and exterior spaces.

A new jewel for the city of Suzhou, now a world-class excellence in design and architecture with its voluminous buildings.
