Starting out as a rug designer and perfecting her technique in the studio of Paola Navone and Marcel Wanders, product designer Stefania Ruggiero‘s work has since expanded into new products, which have allowed the Italian artist to become increasingly known and to experiment with materials and forms.
Rugs still form part of Stefania Ruggiero’s collections, which are complemented by vases, seats, but also mirrors or purely decorative elements. The liveliness of the works is rendered not only by the unpredictable use of color, but also by an alternation of materials that leads to angular geometries and softer ones, shiny and matte, solidity and transparency. These contrasts and rhythm in the design are due to the many materials that are used alone or by combining them, including glass, foam, ceramics, as well as yarns, which do not abandon Ruggiero’s stylistic signature. What is striking about Stefania Ruggiero is her continuous experimentation, with works that follow a common thread but taken individually have their own personality, an independent project idea that does not follow a set design.
