A couple of months ago we presented Fred Perry‘s 2021 campaign starring the biggest virtual band in the world, Gorillaz. Today we present the Fred Perry x Gorillaz capsule collection.
Exploded in a pre-digital world, the band founded by Damon Albarn in 1998 shares with Fred Perry the same free thinking and independent spirit. In fact, since 1952, the British brand has been adopted as a uniform by sportsmen, young rebels and musicians.
The four members of the band; 2D, Murdoc Niccals, Russel Hobb and Noodle were forced to temporarily leave Kong Studios after a demonic sinkhole opened up under the building.
While they waited for the problem to be fixed, they grabbed a few essentials – instruments, recording equipment and the Fred Perry collection they’d been working on – and hit the road.
Polo Shirts feature the signature of the band members and are customized with graphic embroidered prints on the chest. The crane print, one of the recurring motifs of the Gorillaz aesthetic, is featured on polo shirts and dresses. Track Jackets and Track Pants feature embroidery and geometric patterns, as well as OWL and Choose Pazazu patches, while the Reject False Icons claim is printed on the back of a T-shirt.
The capsule collection also features four outerwear pieces, including three reinterpretations of the classic Harrington Jacket, all made in Wolverhampton, England. The Contrast Rib Harrington Jacket in water-resistant cotton is distinguished by a zig-zag lining, while the Palm Print Harrington features an all-over gorilla palm print.
The last Corduroy Harrington is corduroy with the same print on the inner lining, also present on the inside of the Patch Detail Bomber Jacket.
The Fred Perry x Gorillaz collection can be purchased exclusively online by registering at fredperry.com/gorillaz or by visiting the shop in the band’s virtual HQ or by scanning the QR codes located in selected Fred Perry stores, including the Milan store in Corso di Porta Ticinese, 76 starting today, May 20th.
