Undoubtedly one of the most brilliant and unconventional fashion photographers in what was the golden age of fashion, at every possible level, Thierry Le Gouès wrote the history of fashion photography.
After years in which the legendary photographer born in Brest in 1964 and raised in Paris, Le Gouès has decided to give the world a compendium of his work from the 1990s, when fashion and related glamour were at their peak.

90’s, this is the title of the book coming out in July published by powerHouse Books, encompasses the photos Le Gouès took of the most important and famous models of the 1990s around the world, helping to define the aesthetics of that incredible period. From Carla Bruni to Kate Moss, from Naomi Campbell to Linda Evangelista, a series of images that chronicle the incredible talent and unique and inimitable perspective of the Breton photographer, thanks in part to the maximum trusting relationship he was able to establish with the models he shot.

Observing masters of the caliber of Peter Lindbergh, Patrick Demarchelier, Steven Meisel and Albert Watson, during his time as an intern at the Parisian Pin-Up studio where these photographers habitually shot, Thierry Le Gouès learned, more than technique, the relationship to be established with the subjects to be shot made of complicity and trust, in fact this will be a specific peculiarity of his that is easily found when observing his work.

90’s opens with a preface by Carla Bruni herself, one of his favorite models-he himself makes no secret of the fact that his favorite photo was taken of the former première dame and which you can see above-and contains more than 280 photographs that already at the time proposed a more inclusive idea of beauty: he was one of the first photographers in fact to devote his work exclusively to black models and models of African origin and ethnicity. Many of these shots are contained in his first book, 1997’s Soul, this collection went on to inspire some of the most beautiful campaigns ever produced by Nike, starring the most in vogue American athletes and female athletes at the time, of course all shot strictly by Le Gouès himself.
The book will be released in July but you can already pre-order it here.
