TIMBRA: the birch piano designed by Kelly Wearstler

When a designer decides to engage with a musical instrument, they step into a territory where aesthetics and technique must coexist in balance. It is precisely from this challenge that TIMBRA was born, the first piano designed by designer Kelly Wearstler together with Edelweiss Pianos, a historic family-run company now in its seventh generation.

For Wearstler, music has always been a constant source of inspiration, capable of influencing the way she imagines spaces and atmospheres. From this came the idea of designing a piano that would not simply be an instrument to play, but also an object able to visually define the environment in which it stands.

A piano, in fact, has a distinctive presence: it is both a musical instrument and an architectural element. Even in silence, it occupies space and alters its balance. With TIMBRA, the designer wanted to work precisely on this dual nature, transforming the instrument into an almost sculptural presence.

Its soft, continuous shape seems to follow the rhythm of sound through space, with fluid lines that make the structure dynamic and organic. The body of the piano is made through curved layers of birch veneer, handcrafted to achieve smooth, compact surfaces.

Available in six translucent finishes that allow the natural texture of the wood to show through, TIMBRA places the relationship between material, proportion, and craftsmanship at its core. The result is an object that finds an interesting balance between technical precision and sensory quality.

More than a simple instrument, TIMBRA presents itself as a project that brings together music, design, and sculpture, bringing into the domestic space a presence that can be perceived even before it is heard.
