Interpreting the concept of “travel” through the visual synthesis of a poster is never an easy task. Yet, under the guidance of professor Benedetta Spreafico, the students of IED Milano—coming from diverse educational backgrounds and countries—have managed to translate its multiple nuances into images. From migration to the pursuit of pleasure, from inner exploration to discovering the world, their work has shaped a visual narrative that unfolds along the walls of Via Ventimiglia, between Porta Genova and the MUDEC. Additionally, the project involves a collaboration with the graphic design studio La Tigre. But what is it all about?
The special IED project for Travelogue. Stories of Journeys, Migrations, and Diasporas is part of a multidisciplinary approach, perfectly aligning with the exhibition hosted at the Museum of Cultures. The result is a series of 70 multilingual posters that serve as a preview of the exhibition, transforming the wall into a true poster art installation—an open-air extension of the show itself.
The initiative brought together 22 young creatives from IED Milano’s three-year programs in Graphic Design, Illustration and Animation, Photography, Communication Design, and Video Design. Their work has redefined the urban space, turning a simple stretch of road into a visual diary that sparks reflection. Each poster tells a unique story, yet together they create a collective narrative—an opportunity to immerse oneself, even for just a moment, in the thoughts and experiences of another.
“I am particularly proud to see how our students have been able to interpret and translate the themes of MUDEC’s exhibition with sensitivity and professionalism, demonstrating the creativity that IED is committed to nurturing in each of them,” said Giuseppe Bob Liuzzo, Coordinator of the Three-Year Graphic Design Course at IED Milano, who supervised the project.
The young artists behind the posters come from various parts of the world, including Italy, Japan, Lithuania, Serbia, Ukraine, Guatemala, and Turkey. Their names are: Anna Airoldi, Ugnė Andriejūnaitė, Eleonore Berdondini, Angelica Fiore, Caterina Frattin, Maria Caterina Galli, Anna Gladysheva, Christina Iris Ishiba, Kateryna Katruk, Majed Maatugh, Elisabetta Nari, Mattia Pansera, Miriam Peverada, Mariana Porras, Noemi Sofio, Benedetta Tagliabue, Melisa Tulunay, Lukas Urbsys, Abamulu Viganò, Fiorella Villagrán, Mattia Volpe, and Giovanni Zanette.
