Truthness is the name of a series of photographs by Slovakian artist Evelyn Bencicova that explores the portrait as a straightforward and direct means of communication, but at the same time fragile and vulnerable. Evelyn’s project captures the complexity of our inner worlds through images that are similar in composition, as she herself explains:

“Truthness explores the portrait as a form of dialogue, or even monologue. It is a transition of the subject in question, that is the desire to capture the complexity of the interior through simple and almost identical images”.

The artist’s choice to use a minimal background is not accidental: surprising portraits of women wearing white clothes are juxtaposed with the images of the hand of each subject holding different flowers, the clean background highlights this gesture. In Truthness, the models undress in front of the camera, revealing their emotions, their essence, in an authentic way.

“The way they expose their faces, bodies and souls to the camera is what interests me”.

Every gesture, apparently unimportant, becomes crucial, intense and full of meaning. The protagonists get rid of the superfluous, revealing themselves in all their splendid fragility.
