Milan is coloured thanks to the paints and work of street artists, illustrators and graphic designers who have been involved in the “Un nome in ogni quartiere”.
Conceived by Milano&Partners and curated by the Milan City Council’s Art in Public Spaces Office, the project was created with the aim of creating a work of public art in every neighbourhood of the city featuring the name of the place where the artwork is housed.
To date, 9 murals have been created in the neighbourhoods of Bovisa, Portello, Lorenteggio, Città Studi, Porta Romana, Gallaratese, Corvetto, Quarto Oggiaro and Baggio. For the last two Collater.al Studio participated in the production, working closely with the two artists chosen for the occasion.

In October, the Quarto Oggiaro district library in Via Otranto 7 was completely covered by Lucia Biancalana, a young Italian artist based in Hamburg. Her simple, clean forms, combined with delicate, solid colours, have enlivened the building’s outer wall, completely transforming the urban landscape, and indeed continuing to grow on the library’s walls.
A few weeks ago, the Piedmontese graphic designer, illustrator and urban artist Alice Lotti finished her mural on one of the perimeter walls of the Istituto Comprensivo “Primo Levi” in Baggio, via Pistoia 30.
In this case the artist was helped by young and enthusiastic helpers: the school students left their desks for a few hours and, armed with stencils and paint, gave their contribution, making the work not only a mural created for the community, but created by the community. The work represents some of the distinctive elements and traits of the area, accompanied by some words that describe even better its soul, such as green, multi-ethnic, solidarity.

In addition, the wall was officially presented to the inhabitants of the neighbourhood during an inauguration attended by the new councillor for Culture in Milan, Tommaso Sacchi, the councillor for School in Municipality 7, Erica Soana, Alice Lotti and the Primo Levi students.
“Un nome in ogni quartiere” does not end here. The next two murals are already in the pipeline, to be created in the Barona and NoLo neighbourhoods, and the intention of Milano&Partners and the Milan City Council’s Art in Public Spaces Office is to continue in 2022 and perhaps even reach all 88 neighbourhoods in the city.
For now, don’t miss the photos of the artworks by Lucia Biancalana and Alice Lotti below.
