If you drive through the countryside surrounding Caltagirone, in Sicily, you may come across some ruins painted to perfection. This is Uncommissioned Landscape Manipulation, a project by Sicilian street artist Ligama and his team.

Born in 1986, after embarking on a university career focused on experimenting with new methods of printing, Ligama decided to devote himself exclusively to his art. After a long artistic research, he succeeded in an almost impossible task, to paint sounds.  Thanks to an algorithm created by an engineer who translates sounds into colors Ligama has painted the ruins of the Sicilian countryside following the noises of these places.

In addition, his work is also based on the relationship between real and digital, breaking down the image into colored pixels.

Ligama’s art needed a three-dimensional support and a place far from the metropolis, and these ruins, lost in the middle of the Sicilian countryside, proved to be perfect.  A true example of how art can give new life to the territory.
