Vans and Carpet Company have teamed up to reimagine a skateboarding icon with the release of the Skate Old Skool 36+. Launching on January 9, 2025, through the Vans Checkerboard Union (VCU) network, this limited edition revamps the OG Style 36 from 1977, blending classic design with contemporary details.
The video campaign delves into the butterfly effect, imagining how the lives of skateboarding and music legends might have changed without the influence of the Vans Old Skool. Featured personalities include J Mascis, Ray Barbee, Omar Hassan, Tony Alva, Ronnie Sandoval, Zion Wright, and others.

The new Skate Old Skool 36+ boasts a single-wrap foxing, a padded tongue for added comfort, and metal eyelets, ensuring durability without sacrificing style. PopCush™ insoles and Sickstick™ outsoles provide optimal cushioning and superior grip, while the sturdy Duracap™ reinforcement adds extra longevity. Each pair is individually numbered, with production limited to 1,977 pieces—a nod to the debut year of the Style 36.
The design revisits the original black-and-yellow color scheme, updated with premium materials like crocodile-textured synthetic leather. The collection also includes apparel such as a pullover and Baggy Fit sweatpants featuring a vintage wash, holographic logo patches, and a branded tote bag. Unique details like Arabic-language tags, interchangeable Velcro patch tongues, and custom embroidery make this sneaker a true collector’s item. The look is completed with engraved rubber logos on Vans’ iconic waffle sole.
