eego is Antonio Castellano, artistic director of events, producer and songwriter from Calabria. He is our guest of our sixty-eighth vinilica, today we talk about his brand new and fresh record “POP DISEASE”.

10 dark trip-hop tracks, on which alternate the voices of Arua and Anna as well as eego himself, often dehumanized and overwhelmed by the effects.
“POP DISEASE” is an ambitious, difficult record, to which you have to pay attention. It is not pop in the common sense of the term but it is not experimental in the common sense of the term.
Its strong point is the variety of atmospheres, from glitch-pop to Lo-Fi house, from avant hip-hop to rhodes piano of the final “HER VEINS”. “POP DISEASE” is cared for as much in the sounds as in the lyrics: 10 songs that talk about the malaises common to all of us and, precisely for this reason, more and more pop. A complete album, written and produced by himself.

POP DISEASE as we were saying is a journey through the most common malaises, an ambitious record that first of all wants to launch two clear and strong messages.

“1) paranoia, use of psychotropic drugs, asociality, mental diseases are not only becoming too common problems among my peers and younger people but are also the result of a rotten system, which I want to fight: the capitalist system.
2) Pop is the abbreviation of popular: it is the people who get sick because in the game of capitalism the rich man has many more cards in his hand but the solution is not inside the system but outside: in the return to the beauty of nature, of dilated times, of introspection”.

As always exclusively for Collater.al Mag, eego has created a playlist to get to know him better and above all to get to know his latest beautiful work.

“Pop Disease is a bit my record of life, there are songs written a long time ago, written the old-fashioned way, guitar and vocals. In 2017 I started to work on it, rearranging everything according to my most current listening and here we come to the playlist.
I have chosen the 40 songs that have influenced POP DISEASE: each of them has been a source of inspiration in some passages of the disc. Each of these songs has passed through my stereo dozens of times and is related to a specific moment of this strange three-year period (2017-2019).
There is little stuff from 2020 because once I have written the record and entered the studio I tend to isolate myself from the outside (musical) world so as not to suffer further influences, so everything I have listened to – and that I have included in this playlist – is blended into a mix of my own. What came out this time is POP DISEASE”.
