The Danish design studio Woonpioniers has created and developed the Indigo Cabins, houses made entirely of sustainable material. These houses are built with a considerable amount of biological materials that aim to create mini buildings that are sustainable for people but, above all, for the environment.

Made with wood and cellulose, straw, hemp fiber, earth and clay, these cabins try to minimize the use of materials that can pollute the ecosystem such as artificial and toxic products. Being modular, the cabins offer an effective method for a reduced waste of energy, materials, and money.

At the end of their “life”, Indigo Cabins can be easily disassembled, possibly re-assembled, and placed elsewhere. Making this kind of house allows mass prefabrication under controlled conditions and on-site assembly in a very short time.

In designing the cabins, the team also explored what low-tech interventions could help to reduce energy consumption. The local climate, the location of the sun throughout the year, the natural environment and the lifestyle are all elements in favor of this type of accommodation.
Built internally from wood, Indigo Cabins look like two levels structures, with large windows, an accurate arrangement of objects in the space in order to become multifunctional. For example, the shower underneath the stairs saves space throughout the house by not having to create a dedicated room.
