Wang Wei, an artist based in Beijing, takes up the photographic tradition that sees “youthhood” as the protagonist: his project Young Wild & Free is a quote to the famous song by Snoop Dogg, which reads in his verses:
“So what we get drunk/ So what we smoke weed/ We’re just having fun/ We don’t care who sees”
His subjects are young people who live that part of life that seems infinitely long while you’re living it and incredibly short when you think back about it. There isn’t a specific message behind it, but there is a kind of desire for freedom and wild mood, that distinguishes these years. His female figures are ironic and exuberant, rebellious, but not aggressive and full of the joy of living.
