For the third edition of the Echappées d’Art project, the Italian artist Hitnes has painted a new mural.

For this year’s festival, the Roman street artist has reinterpreted La Tapisserie de l’Apocalypse, the 13th-century tapestry preserved in the Anger Castle. The tapestry, created by Robert Poisson and decorated by Jean de Bruges, inspired by the Apocalypse of Saint John, is one of the masterpieces of French artistic heritage, as well as being the oldest preserved French tapestry.

La Tapisserie de l’Apocalypse is the perfect subject for Hitnes, famous for her naturalist graffiti. The mural has been made on a facade of a house near Place du Pilori, making the building covered by a real tapestry.

Hitnes worked laying out different layers of paint, creating different layers and gradually adding different elements (animals, flowers) that seem to emerge from the flat surface.
