The Mediterranean, tinged with black, laps against the coastal terraces in a final warning. When the wind shifts, the world wavers. The calm sea and the sky heavy with clouds evoke the Deluge, an idea that permeates the city. It is just before the storm that French photographer Adeline Care, in her project Marseille, Tempête !, explores Marseille, capturing the tense air of a suspended moment. Nature holds its breath, just like the young men poised to dive.

The myth of the flood is universal: humanity, swollen with pride, is swallowed by the waves. But Care is not searching for a final judgment. She focuses on the last moments of lightheartedness: a woman takes a selfie in the silky water, while further out, swimmers feel as if they are in a pool. The rocks seem to brush against each other one last time before parting forever. Farewell lingers in the air, yet no one seems to notice.

More About Adeline Care
Born in 1993 in Dordogne, Adeline Care explores the themes of appearance and disappearance through her photography, seeking to reveal the mysterious dimension of reality. In Marseille, Tempête !, each image is a suspended moment, a meditation on the fleeting nature of life. Care chases the storm—perhaps to uncover a truth, or to capture the essence of life just before everything is swept away.
