Imagine a world without borders, without distinctions. Everyone belongs everywhere, and the only rules are dictated by nature. For some, this may sound like utopia, but for Ana Hell, this reflects her childhood.

It was her unconventional upbringing in a nomadic religious community that inspired the Spanish photographer to create the project “Como un Pez” (“Like a Fish”). Through her photographs, Ana seeks to convey how the concept of “home” was elusive and intangible for her; home was every place and no place at once. She admits that even today, she struggles to recognize any single place as “home.”
But then, how does a person form themselves? How does one’s identity take shape? Her photographs answer these questions, exploring themes such as anonymity, identity, and the complexity of human relationships.
Within a world and society that define a person primarily by national identity, Ana Hell imagines a fantastical world where the only boundaries are those of nature.
