For years, Australian artist Ben Frost has been making works to disrupt the perception of brands and symbols in pop culture and advertising. This hawkish critique of consumerist propaganda is carried out by directly using the packaging of mass consumer products, which help bring brands into every moment of our daily lives.
From cardboard bags to medicine boxes and fast food menus, anything can turn into a canvas for Ben Frost, who has previously exhibited around the world and published in some of the biggest magazines.
Frost’s work does not conceal a very direct critique of advertising, contrasting physical objects with images from the cartoon world, which add a level of irony and sarcasm to the imagery with which we usually associate the different brands represented.
The artist’s illustrative style in the past has also attracted the interest of fashion brands, most notably it is Jeremy Scott who called Frost for his FW18 campaign at Moschino, a brand that has many aesthetic points of contact with the artist’s works.
