The illustrator and “images craftsman” Benedetto Demaio, has created a delicate and colorful artwork for the Timberland DYO service, dedicated, after the Boat Shoe summer project, to the winter Yellow Boots.
Entirely based on the tones of turquoise, the artist’s favourite colour, the artwork interprets the freedom of the Design Your Own online service and the concept of urban exploration for which the Yellow Boots seem to have been born.
The iconic boot, in its brightest colour, rests on the asphalt ready to go along.
This is how Benedetto tells us about his creative process:
When I was asked to reinterpret the iconic Timberland Yellow Boots trought my style, I immediately thought about how I could focus my attention mainly on two aspects: the Design Your Own online service and the flexible resistance that makes these boots ideal for urban exploration.
In order to merge these two special characteristics with the distinctive features of my expressive language, I decided to concentrate on two elements: colour and the street. For the first one I chose turquoise, a colour that identifies me, as a signature present in all my graphic works, to highlight the extreme degree of customization of the DYO service.
To represent the road, I opted instead for asphalt, an indisputable symbol of urban life and a paradigm of the road. I started kneading a mixture, created ad hoc, of vinyl glue, plaster, bicarbonate and water, with which I shaped the “mudslide” of paint, giving it the shape of the mythical boot. Once solid, I painted it in turquoise and rested on the asphalt with its granular and dark texture. The hand that tightens the tempera tube, simulating the gesture of squeezing it, has completed the shot, essential and aimed at emphasizing the ideal concept that I imagined for boots: customize them and leave for your on the road exploration!”
Here are the artwork and some making-of images.
