The best microscope photographs of 2021, as well as the best naturalistic ones, showed a majestic and hidden side of nature, sometimes unseen by the naked eye. Among the photographic competitions that allow to have a unique point of view of our planet there is also the Ocean Photographer of the Year, a contest that in these days has awarded the best photographs of 2021 that have as subject sea and the oceans.
The contest is promoted by Oceanographic Magazine, the specialized magazine that tells about the seas touching the themes of adventure and conservation of the underwater ecosystem. The magazine is in fact also a charity that promotes initiatives aimed at protecting the oceans, of which the Ocean Photographer of the Year competition is part.

Oceanographic Magazine’s mission is to capture the beauty of the sea and the creatures that inhabit it, as well as the conflicting feelings that water evokes. This year’s competing photographers’ shots feature not only the evocative and fascinating side of the oceans, but also those more contrasting feelings such as danger, emptiness, darkness, and energy.
The seven judges awarded the winners of the eight categories, as well as the one overall winner, which was photographer Aimee Jan’s shot of a green turtle in Australia’s Ningaloo Reef.
You can see all the ocean-themed photos on the Ocean Photographer of the Year website.
