Boolean Operator, the installation in which you enter and you move

Seen from afar, it may seem like a soft cloud that has settled on the raised square of the Suzhou Center in China. In reality, it is Boolean Operator, the latest installation created by Marc Fornes’ studio, THEVERYMANY, for the Jinji Lake Biennale 2018.

The structure is entirely made of a very thin layer of white aluminum, which has been given the shape of a cloud. The surface is entirely perforated, so as to allow external light to penetrate. In this way, when we enter the structure we find ourselves in an ethereal place, another world. Walking through the unshaped corridors of the Boolean Operator is a truly revealing experience. The feeling is that you find yourself on a boat designed to move visitors, which itself becomes a destination.

“A vassel that moves you.”

The installation is inspired by the moon, by its surface, which is sometimes visible and sometimes hides its craters and its shapes. Thanks to the play of light, the volumes and the movement of the visitor, it seems that the structure moves and changes shape.
