The versatile capsule of Carhartt WIP and Kunichi Nomura

After unveiling its FW22 campaign last week, Carhartt WIP is back in a big way with a capsule collection in collaboration with the polymath Kunichi Nomura, Japanese writer, actor, radio personality, editor, interior designer, Creative Director, and DJ.

The capsule consists of a jacket and pants that recall classic Carhartt WIP silhouettes but in this case have been combined with a more refined, tailored cut.

In fact, both items have an obvious duality that Nomura himself described as “Yin and yang. Night and day. S&M. Work and play”.

A modern renaissance man, Nomura first became known for his work as a writer and journalist, serving as a contributor to a number of Japanese fashion and lifestyle magazines, as well as his own brand, Sputnik. He later founded Tripster Inc. in 2004, a design company specializing in interiors, from restaurants to retail spaces.
Nomura has also produced music events, been a DJ and radio host, and dabbled in acting. His longstanding relationship with director Wes Anderson has seen him credited as co-writer of the 2018 animated film Isle of Dogs. But listing his career milestones does not do justice to Nomura’s natural curiosity and unique gravitational pull. The two items in this collection reflect his lifestyle, in which the boundaries between work and play disappear, allowing one to be continually fed by the other.

The images accompanying the collaboration were taken by Seiya Fujii, with a cast that includes Nomura’s circle of friends and collaborators.

The Carhartt WIP x Kunichi Nomura capsule collection is already available in select Carhartt WIP stores, at and at selected retailers.
