Carhartt WIP presented its new FW21 campaign with a short film in collaboration with Joaquim Bayle and Sylvain Sey.
The video is a hymn to winter in the city, and to face it, you need resistant clothing that can withstand the weather of the coldest season of the year.
The artificial neon lighting that pervades the entire short film further emphasizes the theme of loneliness, transposed to a more raw and real environment such as the metropolitan one.
According to Joaquim Bayle, the film is inspired by neo-noir thrillers such as Nightcrawler – Dan Gilroy’s 2014 film – by the lonely figures represented in the works of American painter and illustrator Edward Hopper, and by early 1980s television shows set in highly populated urban areas such as London, New York and Baltimore.
This set of references and inspirations made the creative duo focus on “dark, cold landscapes” but which come alive through the individuals who live at night.
The short film, which you can see below, was directed by Joaquim Bayle while the shots were taken by Sylvain Sey.
