Photographer Catherine Panebianco‘s No Memory is Ever Alone series will be exhibited from July 26 to Aug. 25 and San Lucido (CS) during the third edition of Fotografia Calabria Festival. Panebianco’s photographs tell a love story about family through a photographic project that blends past and present using Kodak slides taken by her father in the 1950s and 1960s. Through this literal fusion of the past with the present, the artist succeeds in creating an emotional bridge between generations.

The project grew out of a Christmas tradition in Catherine Panebianco’s family: every year, her father would take out a box of slides and project them, asking relatives to tell stories about those images. Over time, these tales became increasingly exaggerated, creating a collective memory that transcended the places where they lived, transforming them into home. This annual ritual meant that every place the family moved to became a place of connection and belonging.

Many of Catherine’s father’s slides depict her mother, to whom he was married for nearly sixty years. After her mother’s death, the artist began to feel the need to keep her memory and that of the entire family alive. Panebianco’s photographs, which place these familiar memories in her present space, offer comfort and a sense that her loved ones are still present and watching over her.
