Chris LaBrooy is a Scottish artist born in Aberdeen and a graduate of the Royal College of Art in London.
A freelance illustrator and graphic designer, he specializes in designing 3D drawings. His works are a mix of architecture and typefaces, illustrations often inspired by famous architects and their creations. The works of Frank Gehry, Ettore Sottsass, and Toyo Ito, among others, are transformed into intricate, meticulously curated, hyperrealistic lettering, details so perfect they look photographic.
His work, however, is not limited to these complicated exercises in style. LaBrooy plays with letters like a child with Legos. He ironically reinterprets famous typefaces by transforming them into three-dimensional buildings that tell their name, origin, and graphic style. He has fun representing words, showing their sensuality or austerity, squeezing their meaning and the infinity of images and feelings they communicate.
