How many photos do we take a day? Thousands, millions, maybe billions. Our Instagram feeds and phone galleries are saturated with impulsively taken, consumed and forgotten photos. Collater.al has therefore decided to make tangible the stories and projects of those who make photography their expressive language, announcing the birth of Collater.al Photography 2022, the first Collater.al exhibition, scheduled from Sept. 23 to Oct. 2 in Milan in the spaces of the Luciana Matalon Foundation at Foro Buonaparte 67.
The contemporary photography exhibition is curated by Collater.al with support from ImageNation and will feature works by more than 200 photographers from around the world. It will be divided by thematic sections, creating an ongoing dialogue between artists and visitors. These include ImageNation‘s Iconic Photo Show and Nicholas Fols and Siermond sections, curated by Martin Vegas, but also a “Just Women” section curated by Slavica Veselinovic. The “Free Bodies” selection of shots will be curated by Chantal Convertini, “Le Japonisme” by Hajime Yoshida, one dedicated to South American photography will be the result of research by Fotógrafas Latinoamericanas while curator Laura Tota will select emerging photographers in the “New Eyes” section.
“Giving images the real dimension” is not only a mission but also an invitation to visitors to look at photography as an art that is born to be printed, to be touched, seen and preserved.
For two weeks in September, Collater.al Photography’s Instagram profile will come to life, breaking the fourth wall from digital to analog. The exhibition will be an opportunity to experience photography live, because it needs more space than any smartphone to appreciate its depth and sensitivity.
