A perfect blend of history, contemporary and future. The oneiric and the fantastic guide us into the surreal and imaginary world in which Kim Jones presents Dior‘s Spring/Summer 2022 Men’s Collection.
The dialogue of the creative director of the Dior men’s line, started since his debut collection with the French maison, with a series of personalities from the world of art and contemporary culture continues. After the collaborations with Hajme Sorajama, Daniel Arsham, Peter Doig, the Ghanaian artist Amoako Boafo, Kenny Scharf and Kaws, for this SS22 Jones calls into question the Texan rapper and producer Travis Scott.
This “conversation” between the English designer and the Houston rapper has as its spark an event in the life of Monsieur Christian Dior, when, in 1947, he went to Texas, to Dallas to be precise, to collect the Neiman Marcus award after the great success of his New Look collection, which restored luster and hope to French fashion.
The collection, called Cactus Jack Dior and the first full Dior created with musician, was presented in Paris with a live fashion show and with the presence of the audience, in a dreamlike atmosphere thanks to the set created by set designer Es Devlin.
Golden gates, the ever-present cacti, horned animal heads, giant white flowers and mushrooms and the brown of the Texas desert land, make up the catwalk where we see a powerful and lively collection that manages to bring together the tradition and tailoring typical of Dior and the multi-faceted personality of Travis Scott.
Tailored 70’s pants that remain loose and comfortable combined with jackets with a false double-breasted, buttonless, boxy and slightly over; pink and green suits that are the counterpart to the black ones that, however, are embellished with gold jewelry brooch or supported by chains and a necklace with precious stones in the shape of cactus specially made by Victoire de Castellane, Creative Director of Dior Jewelry.
Graphically we find the iconic toile oblique reworked with the name of the collection and a new logo obtained from the reworking of the Diamant that dates back to the 70s.
Another noteworthy element of the collection are the graphics by American visual artist George Condo created on soft shirts with thin collars.
