This flying record player is the brainchild of Swedish industrial designer Oscar Olsson. The name he gives to this piece is indeed “Disco volante“, literally “Flying Disc” because of its peculiarity of being installed on the wall, giving the effect of being suspended in the air. The post-modern design looks to the future but at the same time retains retro elements especially in the colors – black, orange, yellow, and green – and in the 1970s-style finishes. Olsson himself states that his research attempts to «bridge the gap between design understood as a problem solving practice and design as an artistic and cultural phenomenon.»

Oscar Olsson’s Disco Volante plays with contrasts. On the one hand is the intended, shiny color of the case-fixed to the wall) – and on the other is the metal structure of the disc arm and stand. Looking at it from underneath, it is not clear what this object, somewhere between a slicer, buzzsaw and a card cutter, is. Its ambiguity and at the same time its innovative appearance intrigues us a lot and makes us want to buy it. Undoubtedly an original piece capable of surprise.
