If Elsa Bleda‘s photographs were written texts, they would be elegies of the night. The South African artist has in fact specialized in the nocturnal, which has declined in all possible facets. It doesn’t matter where her images were captured, what matters is the atmosphere that distinguishes them.

A service station hidden by the fog becomes a ghostly and romantic place, the building in front of it and its lights are transformed into a bright and colourful view, the architecture becomes the mausoleums of civilization so that it almost seems to perceive the silence.

The darkness is never really dark, but it is dampened by a skilful color correction, which breaks the natural color balance and transforms every place in a scenario in the style of Blade Runner.

This wave of artists interested in night photography could be combined with a kind of new cyberpunk romanticism, the desire to tell the story of the future, to convey its anxieties and the beauty of the mystery, which fortunately still survives in the night.

Follow Elsa on her Instagram profile and retrieve our article about another photographer who has dedicated his research to nightlife scenarios, Yoshito Hasaka.
