Emanuel De Sousa bases his artistic research on the human figure, using painting and drawing to transcend traditional representations. His work reflects on the physicality of the body and the conceptual processes that accompany its depiction. Through a personal aesthetic language, De Sousa explores the body as a visible entity and as a vehicle for emotions and thoughts.

De Sousa does not seem to limit himself to portraying human figures in a conventional sense. The interaction between the painterly gesture and organic matter gives rise to a dialogue between presence and absence, between the physical body and inner identity. The artist thus seeks to capture not only the form but also the emotions and sensations it can evoke, inviting the viewer to reflect on the nature of the body as a living and ever-changing entity.

Born in Portugal, he studied Fine Arts at the University of Porto and currently lives in Edinburgh. His works, found in both public and private collections, have been exhibited in Europe and the United States. With a sophisticated use of color and texture, De Sousa invites the viewer to reflect on the mutability of the body, alternating between figuration and abstraction. The artist continues to question the representation of the human, offering a vision of the body that goes beyond mere physical form, toward new meanings.
