The famous auction house Sotheby’s will auction off the famous crown of Notorious B.I.G. which he wore at a photo shoot held in 1997, three days before his death.
Cassandra Hatton of Sotheby’s commented: “The impact of hip hop is everywhere: sneakers, clothing, jewelry, art, music. I wanted a sale that really recognized how huge that impact is.”
The murder of Christopher Wallace in art Notorious B.I.G. remains one of the most significant events in the history of hip hop, and his “K.O.N.Y.” portrait session “, just three days earlier, provided one of the most famous images of the late rapper.
The photographer’s intention was to capture him as the “King of New York”.

The heirloom starts from an auction base of $200,000, but it’s easy to imagine that the price will go up dramatically.
The inside of the crown bears the inscription “Crown from Biggie KONY Shot NYC 3-6-97” and is signed by both Biggie and Claiborne (the photographer of his last shoot).
The auction will be held live in New York on September 15 at 6 pm.
A portion of the proceeds will go to Building Beats, a non-profit organization focused on DJ and music programs.
